SOUTHCORE FINANCIAL CENTRE

The Southcore Financial Centre is a commercial office campus that extends the financial core of downtown Toronto south and west of the main rail corridor and newly renovated Union Station. Development of the project was managed by Great West Life Realty Advisors.  Working with a large consulting team including KPMB Architects on two state-of-the-art office towers and Page + Steele/IBI Group Architects on the Delta Hotel, Bruce Corban of Corban and Goode, Landscape Architecture and Urbanism, designed and oversaw construction of the entire SFC block including Bremner Promenade and wrap-around streetscape, hotel arrival courtyard and private roof podium level terraces of the hotel and corporate towers that provide permanent views of the glittering downtown core.  Of note, the Delta Toronto Hotel tower received the 2015 Toronto Urban Design Award of Excellence for a Tall Building in Context, with specific reference to successful handling of the public realm creating a vibrant pedestrian experience.

The cluster of high rise towers rises from a rectangular podium of three floors in view of all trains entering and leaving Toronto.  SFC is connected by the PATH system to public transit, the CN Tower, MTCC, Aquarium, Air Canada Center, Maple Leaf Square and all major attractions in Toronto’s new Southcore sports and entertainment district. An extensive Urban Forest, consisting mainly of native plant species, is a landscaped amenity for building occupants.

The SFC public realm is distinguished by generous width of public sidewalk, distinctive paving and clustered street tree plantings synchronized with architectural facades.  Curb to building vitrified clay paving creates a continuous signature walking surface reminiscent of the King and Bay financial District.
