PWC TOWER
The PWC Tower was the first of three anchors of the Southcore Financial Centre (SFC) - a commercial office campus southwest of Toronto’s downtown financial center and Union Station. It connects to the PATH system, York Street, a major waterfront gateway from the city core, and Bremner Boulevard, a promenade that connects major entertainment venues
in the South Core district.
Streetscape design takes inspiration from design, materials and detailing of the downtown financial core. The sidewalk consists of signature paving that extends seamlessly from curb to building façade and sets a precedent for the ground treatment of the entire SFC campus block. Street trees are laid out in clusters to create cohesive areas of shade and to synchronize with architectural facades, points of entry, and retail and services function.
The Urban Forest is a 584 m² naturalistic planted terrace at the base of the tower along the north podium. Hardy native species of canopy trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants are distributed and layered to simulate a native Ontario forest. With perimeter walks, secluded meeting corrals and viewing areas, the urban forest is a tranquil place for building occupants to gather and regenerate.
A roof-top Meadow on level 29, is a 1191 m² planted field on top of the mechanical penthouse. It is planted with waves of hardy native prairie grasses to create a durable green carpet that
reduces urban heat island effect.
